If by "0.999999..." you mean:

The limit as x approaches infiniti of 1 - (1/10^x) then ... yeah, sure!

Those who disagree also don't believe that you can get from here to there.

Ray's assumption is correct in that I am using "0.999999..." to denote an infinite number of 9's after the decimal point. His nifty formula demonstrates this well.

Engineer's Answer...Yes, close enough in all practical sense.

Mathematician's answer...1/3 = 0.33333... 3*1/3 = 1.00... 3*0.333... = 0.999... = 1.00...
